Garage Door Lubrication Services

Garage door lubricant is a specialized product that helps keep friction and wear to a minimum – it’s especially helpful for the hinges, rollers, and tracks. It’s important to use lubricant regularly in order to keep the door functioning smoothly and to extend its lifespan.

When your garage door isn’t correctly (or regularly) lubricated, you might notice some weird no nises. Your door may aso not perform as well as you expect. However, proper lubrication requires more than just slathering on some grease and calling it a day.

If you’re dealing with a squeaky garage door that needs some TLC, call Precision 24/7 for an inspection!

Not All Lubricants Work On Garage Doors

Regular lubrication helps keep your door working smoothly and quietly. That being said, classic WD-40 is great for a lot of things – removing oil, softening rubber seals, rust prevention, etc. –  but it should never be used for garage door lubrication.

WD-40 is a solvent-based lubricant that primarily displaces moisture and prevents rust. While it may temporarily lubricate the moving parts of a garage door, it’s not a long-term solution and can actually cause more harm than good. Over time, the solvents in WD-40 can break down the rubber seals and other plastic parts on a garage door, leading to premature wear and tear.

Instead of WD-40, try using a lithium-based or silicone-based lubricant.

  • Lithium-based lubricants are heat- and water-resistant, can operate in extremely high and low temperatures, and protect metal from rust and corrosion. They’re also great for lubricating metal on metal surfaces, but aren’t good for plastic components as they can sometimes cause them to wear down faster.
  • Silicone-based lubricants are also highly resistant to water and heat, making them suitable for use in high-moisture or high-temperature environments. They’re also non-toxic and non-reactive, making them safe for use on a wide range of materials icluding plastics, rubber, and other non-metallic materials.
